As in have read…

Well, I’m pretty sure this was another slow week for reading. I seem to be in something of a slump right now. I did read Because of You by Allie Boniface. I got it from NetGalley as an ARC last week and read it thinking it was almost reading for release, but it’s not due out until mid-October. Oh well. I did enjoy it. It was a second-chance contemporary romance. The characters were good, especially Emerson/Emmy. Blake didn’t get quite as much development, I didn’t think, but he was still pretty good. They both had their problems to deal with and they found a way to overcome them all in the end. Sounds sappy put that way, but some of the best romances are, you know. HEA

I also finished Paranormal Nonsense by Steve Higgs. Higgs is English and writing in British slang, so the writing is sometimes a bit weird for Americans to understand, at least I found it so. I didn’t find it such a problem in his other series about the Aussie gal, The Patricia Fisher series. Would have thought it might be the other way around. But I found this series rather interesting. Tempest Michaels is a retired military man who decides to become a private detective. He ends up being advertised as a “paranormal detective” in a printing mistake and ends up keeping the moniker. He tries to debunk the paranormal nonsense in each case to prove it doesn’t exist. He’s slowly building a bit of a reputation. He gets into some trouble with the constabulary, senior constabulary, of course. But he’s also building a bit of a network of helpers he can call on for various things. And now he’s got a female copper looking at him with interest. He just hasn’t quite figured out what kind of interest it is, yet. I think I’m interested enough to read more of this series.

As in am currently reading…

I’m still trying to convince myself to pick up and finish The Minimalist Challenge. I’m at 63% and the next chapter is titled Think Like a Stoic. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to finish this one this week. Somehow it doesn’t call to me at this point.

I’m still trying to find time to listen to Nottingham. It calls to me, but I just can’t seem to find time to sit & knit & listen. Right now Sarah and I are watching the series about Victoria on Prime at night. It’s really good, but listening time is limited because of it!

I’ve started If You Tame Me by Kathie Giorgio. It’s interesting. It’s about a woman who’s just turned 55 and is trying to figure out how to be 55. She buys herself an iguana as a pet and really puts her all into having a relationship with him. She uses people’s relationship concepts on her iguana. Her favorite cookie is a Fig Newton, and she calls him Newton, Newt for short. It’s hilarious at times. Rather weird at times. But so far, interesting. Given I’m a “woman of a certain age” I may find this more interesting than others might though.

And what comes next?

Well, I haven’t been in an acquisitions slump. I have a new ARC from NetGalley. A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant due out in late November this year.

And my two free new releases from Amazon for the month are Everything You Are by Kerry Anne King and Quantum by Patricia Cornwell.

Five books from an author, the first books in each of her romance series: Lakeshore Secrets of the McAdams Sisters series; Sunset Thunder of the Small Town Beach Town series: Dare to Enter: Pilot of a series for TV(?); Dax of the Bad Boys of Willow Valley all by Shannyn Leah, and Love on the Boardwalk of the Cinnamon Bay Romance series by Shannyn Leah and other authors.

And last, but certainly not least, is an audible book, The Glass Ocean released last year about this time by Beatrice Williams, Lauren Willig, and Karen White, Narrated by Vanessa Johansson, Saskia Maarleveld, and Brittany Pressley by Harper Audio.
